Carceri Sostenibili® (Sustainable Prisons®) is a unique project in Italy, designed to transform penitentiary institutions into models of sustainability, integrating social, economic and environmental dimensions.
This initiative goes beyond the simple redevelopment of structures: it proposes a radical change in line with the needs of the prison system, characterized by overcrowding and obsolete structures.
Since January 1, 2014, the PA is obliged to renovate 3% of the covered surfaces of its buildings every year; according to the European Directive 2012/27/EU, and with the Green House Directive, public buildings must reach energy class E by 2027 and D by 2030.
Carceri Sostenibili® not only meets these regulatory obligations, but represents a pioneering model for improving living conditions within institutions, reducing operating costs and environmental impact.
Thanks to the support of the DDL n. 1049*, the project proposes innovative solutions that address the critical issues of the Italian penitentiary system, offering a unique opportunity to combine energy efficiency, sustainability and improvement of structures.
